Armistice Challenge
0900 - Sunday 10th November

Hope you're all fit and ready for the Armistice Challenge Run! This is just a brief summary of the key information. For more details please visit the race website.

Please read the little paragraph about we've gone cupless!

The course is part of the Trans - Pennine Way on decent surfaces. Mostly tarmac or very high quality gravel surfaces, as long as you avoid any puddles or running down the side of the paths then road shoes should be fine.

Navigation is going to be simple as basically you're on an old railway line, there are no turns, just a few gentle curves and you run along to the turnaround and then head back again toward base camp, carry on past that to the other turn around, then head back to base camp and that's one lap done! (Course Map is here)

Just remember the golden rules

•  Don't miss the turnarounds! They are both at "horse railings" with a big yellow "turn around sign" on. (There are roads beyond them too)

•  Watch out for any cyclists or walkers who may be out on path, its not a closed route.

This is a timed event, not a fixed distance event. If you complete at least one lap, then you are an official finisher and will receive a medal, a goody bag and an official finish in the results. If you want to complete the marathon distance, then you'll need to complete 4 loops, a half marathon would be 2 loops, an ultra will be 5 loops.

You must have started your final loop by a strict 6 hours 00 minutes after the start and as is traditional with ultra events, this is a strictly enforced time limit. As long as you are out of the base camp before the 6 hours 00 minutes limit you'll be able to complete that loop (even if you finish after the 6 hour threshold). There will be no mileage credit for partial laps.

Finally you'll have to tell us when you're finished, not the other way around. As it's a timed event, if you wish you can stop, have a rest and continue, eat cake or you can just stop!

We'll have an “official finishers bell” for this purpose, (Rachel will be the keeper!) when you're done for the day, ring the bell and the goodies will be yours!

Lap Counting

At race registration you'll be handed a small laminated lap counting card, attach this to yourself with a safety pin or cable tie. At the end of each loop get this punched through by one of the hole puncher chaps or chappesses. So basically at the end of each lap, get your card punched, or ring the bell!

Weather

The weather is looking not the best, 4/5C and a chance of a bit of rain. Wrap up warm!

Neck Warmers/Mugs

We now have SVN "Neck Warmers" (absolutely nothing like the well known buffs) and SVN green mugs for sale at £5 cash on race days

Goody Bags

If you'd prefer to not have a goody bag for this event, just hand it back when you finish and we'll keep a running total and add £5 to the "SVN Charity of the Month" donation.

Race Registration

Opens at 0815.
Briefing at 0850.
Start 0900.

Parking

There is about 30 car parking spaces at the Community Centre for the early birds, otherwise there is essentially unlmited free street parking in the area. If you take a 60 second look at Google Maps you'll be able to see the area and the streets to park in. Church Street, Shrewsbury Road & Eastfield Avenue are all free parking and within a few hundred yards.

Getting There

No issues that we are aware of.

Aid Station

None of the usual running stuff at Base Camp, so no isotonic drinks, fruit or energy gels, but there will be cookies, crisps, jelly babies, M&Ms, pringles, nuts and all that sort of thing, there is just going to be the one aid station on the course (and it's a 6.55 mile loop) and we'll have both water and squash to drink. (Do feel free to pop in to the aid station during the mid part of the lap as you will go right past it!)

We'll have a "wet" aid station outside of the village hall and a "dry" one inside for nibbles.

Cupless

One of our longer term goals is the reduction of waste at events and to this end we've gone cupless. Please bring a bottle / cup / mug. We'll have sharpies to mark them and trays at the aid station to store them in. We'll have jugs at the aid station for you to fill them with water and squash.

Toilets

These open at 0815. They are located in the Community Centre

Litter

Please, please, please don't! We'll have bins at base camp.

Dogs

Unfortunately due to permit conditions, and hence insurance coverage, we're no longer allowed to let runners run with dogs

Numbers

If you're running on Saturday too please keep your number to use at this event as well!
